Objectives and professional prospects

In response to the high level of skill and professionalism required to perform the activities of peacebuilding, this Master’s course provides advanced training to those who intend to work (either professionally or voluntarily) in the field of international humanitarian cooperation, particularly in the context of international operations, along the continuum from conflict prevention to institution building.

International careers in this field are particularly competitive and difficult to undertake. Combining academic study with a hands-on operational approach, the Master’s offers participants a course of study at the end of which they will be able to present themselves as being highly qualified academically and will possess practical experience, which will give them ready access to the world of international cooperation in the field of peace building.

Candidates for the Master’s may be either recent graduates or those who, having already gained some experience by various means, are seeking further qualifications, through a period of study and training.

Following the Master’s course students will be eminently suitable for careers with international organizations, both governmental and non-governmental, in public administrations and local bodies active in the area of international cooperation and solidarity at regional, provincial and communal levels.

In order to guarantee an optimal and effective involvement in activities, the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 15 students. In the case that the minimum number of 10 participants is not met.

 · Programma

Combining academic study with a hands-on operational approach, the Master’s course runs for a year, beginning on 12 January 2009. In order to allow for both the attainment of the course’s educational goals and the subsequent work-placement of its graduates, the Master’s begins with its academic component and ends with an internship.

The programme will be taught entirely in English.

Course attendance is compulsory: students must attend a minimum of 75% of each course.

Teaching follows an interdisciplinary approach and takes place in the January-June semester, divided into three six-week periods.

There is a total of approximately 264 hours of lessons, divided into 16 courses of each of which is valued at 3 credit hours.
